A celebration of Contact Singers

Join us for an evening of celebration of Contact Singers at 7.30 pm on Friday, 10th March in the JB Hall. Tickets are £5, available from Susan Rocke, Judith Morrow, Lorna Thompson, Lynda Casement or any other Contact Singers.

"Session created Contact over 30 years ago and the Singers were one of the original groups. There were only about 10 at the start and Susan struggled with winning the choir around to accepting they were not rivals. When Alf came to Gilnahirk he wanted to work with all singing groups and Susan feels this was the making of the group. As the years have gone in the Contact singers attracted more and more people and became not only a choir but a community of people who cared for each other. Second generations joined - Carol and Judith Anderson were the trendsetters and people from other churches and none joined the ranks. Susan chose music which appealed to the singers and was open to all who wanted to sing. No need for auditions or music reading skills. Over the years they built up a reputation with other churches too and they performed all over the province - even Donegal (international!) Contact had always a mix of secular and sacred pieces, sketches, readings etc and Susan would have picked these to suit the particular audience and space. As the time went on they sang at many members’ weddings which was a particular joy.

I can’t impress enough how much time and love Susan poured into the Contact singers and it was appreciated by everyone involved.

She has decided to retire and this is the final concert - so it will be a good one!"

(Thanks to Judith Morrow for this lovely introduction!)
